# RMR Calculator

Calculate your Resting Metabolic Rate — a simple estimate related to your BMR calculation.

Resting Metabolic Rate, or RMR, is another way of describing resting energy expenditure. In laboratory settings BMR and RMR are measured under different test conditions.

Coach Plum provides a simple derived RMR estimate rather than a laboratory measurement.

## How Coach Plum calculates RMR

Coach Plum calculates RMR as **BMR × 1.1**. This means the RMR result is always 10% above the BMR estimate produced by the calculator.

## RMR vs BMR

[BMR](https://coachplum.com/bmr/calculator) is the underlying resting-energy estimate calculated from Mifflin-St Jeor or estimated lean mass. Coach Plum's RMR figure is a simple comparison value derived from that BMR estimate.

## RMR vs TDEE

[TDEE](https://coachplum.com/tdee/calculator) is designed to estimate whole-day energy use by applying your work and exercise activity. For maintenance, fat-loss or weight-gain planning, TDEE is therefore the more useful starting point.

## Why show RMR?

Showing BMR, RMR and TDEE together makes the different layers of the calculation easier to compare: resting energy first, then a resting-rate comparison, then the activity-adjusted daily total.
